Nurse Practitioners

A Nurse Practitioner is an experienced nurse who has undertaken specific training to enable them to see patients for minor illness, chronic disease management and with undiagnosed problems without seeing a doctor first.

They can:

  • assess you and make a diagnosis
  • initiate and review treatment
  • order tests and investigations
  • give advice on health issues and screening

Some of the problems you can see a Nurse Practitioner for are:

  • Coughs, cold & flu like illnesses, chest infections, tonsillitis and sore throats
  • Ear Ache or ear infections
  • Sinusitis
  • Joint Injuries, sprains and acute back pain
  • Poorly controlled asthma
  • Wounds, scalds, burns, skin rashes, shingles, impetigo, skin infections and eczema
  • Hay fever
  • Exacerbations of COPD
  • Urine infections
  • Emergency contraception /contraception queries
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Stress and anxiety
