Blood Tests

Unfortunately there is a national problem with the laboratories testing blood samples. As a result, with immediate effect, we have been informed to pause all routine testing of blood samples.

We do not know when normal service will resume and unfortunately this will affect many patients who have blood test appointments booked with us, including for medication reviews and chronic disease reviews. Patients who require URGENT blood tests will be prioritised by our clinical team.

We recognise this will cause frustration and anxiety but can only apologise as this situation is completely outside the practice’s control. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and ask for your patience and understanding at this time.

Changes to surgery procedures as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) 

In order to keep our patients and staff safe, we have implemented some changes to our routine systems, including those for appointments, prescriptions, and queries. These changes are focused on reducing unnecessary footfall into the surgery.

 

All appointments will be assessed by a clinician over the phone. If the clinician feels you need to be assessed face to face, arrangements will be made on an individual basis.

 

All prescriptions will be processed electronically. If you have a nominated pharmacy, your prescription will be sent to them via the Electronic Prescription Service. If you usually collect a prescription or token from us, please take a note of your NHS number and provide this to your chosen pharmacy. Once we have processed your request, they will be able to download your prescription at whichever pharmacy you choose to use. There are a very small number of medications for which we are unable to process prescriptions electronically – you will be advised if any of your medications fall into this category and alternative arrangements will be made for you.

Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)

 

The NHS across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will be better prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases if the public follows Public Health England advice.

 

The latest advice issued by the Chief Medical Officer is to stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

  • A high temperature or
  • A new continuous cough

 

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or a hospital. You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home. Stay At Home advice can be found here.

 

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:

  • You feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • Your condition gets worse
  • Your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

 

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

Award-Winning GP

Dr Shah has been awarded GP of the Year 2017 by RCGP's East Anglia Faculty.

 

Cyber Security Incident

As a precaution, we were advised to turn off all computers from around 5pm on 12.05.2017 due to the national cyber security incident affecting the NHS network. Thorpe Road Surgery’s systems were thankfully unaffected, and surgery was able to resume as normal on Monday morning. We thank you for your patience and apologise to anyone whose appointment was affected by the temporary outage.

Named GP for all patients

From April 2016 a requirement of the new GP contract is that all patients, including children, must be allocated a named, accountable GP who takes responsibility to oversee the delivery of care.

Dr Shah is the named GP for all patients registered at Thorpe Road Surgery.

Please note that this does NOT prevent you from seeing any other GP in the practice as you currently do.  Patients can and should feel free to choose to see any of the GPs in the practice in line with current arrangements
